I was born in Switzerland a few years ago…somewhere around 1952!… And came to Venezuela in the 70’s. I’m an independent photographer. Although I do some work for a few French Magazines, I edit my own calendars, postcards, books, greeting cards, maps, posters, etc.
Photography: Advertising distortion over the artistic concept of photography is enormous. The majority of people confuse the item exposed with the quality of the picture. In other words: a beautiful girl is a beautiful girl, but people say: What a good picture!
The photographer must give a personal touch to the picture, and that requires a touch of craziness or a great passion. The technical side of photography is extremely simple, anyone can learn to take Pictures in no time, but you will never learn how to really take artistic pictures if you don’t have that touch of madness. At the moment, the technical work had been simplified enormously by digital cameras and computers…but don’t get to hopeful! The simpler it gets, the more madness is required, because competition is everyday greater.
The photographers from the 20’s till the 60’s were extraordinary… very few now days are that good! …cameras were very simple and they worked with only one or two lenses…how many photographers now days are up to their level.
The photographers that inspired me at the beginning of my career were Helmut Newton, Guy Bordin, Sarah Moon, Bruce Weber, Avedon, H. Ritts, Fontana y Fulvio Roiter.
My passion for photography is diverse. And I present it in the 4 angles that attract me the most…As such, they represent 4 different emotional states of mine and each one of them motivate me in their own way…
Landscapes represent the adventures spirit within me… the seeker of exceptional, enchanting, and sometimes even virgin panoramas. It is an exhausting chore… the light many times doesn’t help and I have to return to the place months later or maybe wait a day or two until the lighting is right, you have to select the right angle and it requires a lot of patience, walking up and down until you find the right one. This kind of photography requires the character of a conqueror… to dare into the unknown…
Fauna is the hunter of images… the hard part is to find where it is, and it can take a long time! But the most difficult thing is that animals do not like photographers! One must develop a patience of a feline… but I am not one of them! Personally I would like to have a large collection with great variety since I feel more and more attracted by its diversity… they are all extraordinary. To capture them in nature fills me up with joy!
Flowers: they seem easy photograph since they are so pretty, but the sessions behind every selected photo are very long and complicated… because you have to try several densities of light and different angles… until I like the composition… I feel a bit like a painter, a decorator… perhaps like a seducer… since I would like my pictures to seduce a woman that inspires me…
Nudity: It is not difficult, it is extremely difficult!… specially when it is done in my way, like you can see, they are taken in exteriors. First I have to find the location, sometimes hundreds of kilometers away… and nothing assures you that the day we are there the light is right. In regards to the model, it is desperating… very few love this job. The best are dancers, but they are hard to find and when they are found they have to be taken to the location. This costs money and you can’t assure whether the atmospheric conditions will be adequate. The challenge motivates me enormously.
The truth is that I think I am a great romantic… Deep inside I hope, through my images I would be capable of seducing you, that those escapes leaves you an idealization, a global picture, is like translate an special note in his own context. I leave it to you own criteria.
